Pinelawn Power Project 80 MW Combined Cycle

CLIENT: PINELAWN POWER LLC

LOCATION: BABYLON, NEW YORK

IN-SERVICE DATE: SIMPLE CYCLE – JULY 2005 / COMBINED CYCLE – OCT. 2005

SCOPE: EPC CONTRACTOR

The Pinelawn Power Project is a 79.9 MW combined cycle plant. Completed in record time this plant is situated on only 2.3 acres and utilizes a dual fuel General Electric LM‐6000 Gas Turbine Generator firing either natural gas or kerosene and a Siemens Steam Turbine.

Heat Recovery from the Gas Turbine exhaust gas is achieved by utilizing an IST Once Through Steam Generator (OTSG) provided with a selective catalytic reduction system (SCR) for emissions control. Aqueous Ammonia (19 %) was used for the SCR. The OTSG was provided with the capability to be duct fired with natural gas fuel when the LM‐6000 is firing on gas. Steam from the single pressure OTSG is directed to a 32 MW Steam Turbine Generator equipped with a steam condenser that is cooled by a wet type cooling tower. A chiller package was also provided to reduce the combustion turbine inlet air temperature during periods of high ambient temperature.

A single gas compressor was included to boost the natural gas pressure for the LM‐6000. A single, two winding main transformer takes the combined power output from the two generators (gas turbine and steam turbine generators) to the 69kV switch yard take off tower.

The plant features a kerosene storage tank with truck unloading facilities including overhead weather protection and contained delivery area. These facilities are also utilized for aqueous ammonia unloading.

The plant also features process water, raw water, demineralized water and aqueous ammonia storage tanks. Demineralized water is provided by a portable truck mounted system.

Permitting for the project began in May of 2004 and final permits were issued in December of 2004. Construction began in October of 2004 and the facility was delivered to the client in “Simple Cycle” by July 1, 2005. Construction continued on the combined cycle portion of the plant while the facility was dispatched in simple cycle on a daily basis. The facility was turned over to the Owner for total combined cycle operation in October of 2005; one (1) year after construction began.
